Brass Cow Tag or ?, W P Tossell & Son, Deming New Mexico

This is what I presume is an early brass cow tag, though it could be something else such as a hotel room key tag. Brass, round, and one-sided with a diameter of 1-3/8".
Inscribed with "W. P. Tossell & Son, 206 Gold Ave." and the numeral "50." This is the home address of William P. Tossell who was one of the first settlers in Deming, New Mexico, moving from Michigan. He came to Deming in 1883 and died in 1913. This tag must have been from early in his career because it is "& Son" but he had three sons. Google "W P Tossell & Son Deming NM" and it will bring up his obituary.
